The number of dog bite cases is rapidly increasing in Delhi. It has been noticed that in the year 2023, around 54,395 dog bite cases have been registered in many hospitals of MCD, Delhi, along with other hospitals. According to the brief analysis of the Muncipal Coordination Department, the ratio of dog bite cases is approximately higher than that of other animal biting cases such as cats, monkeys, and others, South Delhi is becoming the hub of these dangerous biting cases.

Incident: One and a half year old girl died tragically in a dog attack on Saturday in the Tughlaq Road area of ​​Lutyens Zone. Even after this, NDMC does not have any special arrangements other than sterilization to stop the menace of dogs. In the last 6 years, 7978 people have become victims of dogs in the NDMC area. NDMC neither has a proper team nor dog catcher vehicles to catch stray dogs. The NDMC has handed over the command of catching the dogs to two NGOs.

Cases of dog attacks are increasing every year. NDMC neither has a sufficient dog catcher team nor dog catcher vehicles to catch stray dogs. NDMC also does not have a special team to catch stray animals. To catch them, NDMC has hired a cattle catcher vehicle, whose contract expired in January. At present, NDMC does not have any cattle catcher vehicles. The incidents are increasing due to a lack of manpower. NDMC has given contracts to two non-government organizations for the sterilization of dogs.

Officers had information about the dog shelter, and a temporary dog ​​shelter was running for a long time at the place where dogs mauled a one and a half year old girl to death on Tughlaq Road. The Public Health Department of NDMC also had this information. But, no action was taken.

3338 cases in Kalkaji Hospital

3338 cases of dog bites, 264 of cat bites, and 161 of monkey bites were registered in Kalkaji Hospital. There were 3100 cases of dog bites, 222 of cat bites, and 167 of monkey bites in Hindurao Hospital. RBIPMT and MVID, both the big hospitals of MCD located in the camp, reported 2495 cases of dog bites, 115 of cat bites, and 52 of monkey bites. There were 2239 cases of dog bites, 108 of cant bites, and 23 of monkey bites in Mata Gujri Hospital. Whereas in Lajpat Nagar Hospital, 1273 cases of dog bites, 59 cases of cat bites, and 45 cases of monkey bites were reported. Whereas in Swami Dayanand Hospital, there were 959 cases of dog bites, 22 cases of cat bites, and 25 cases of monkey bites.

13985 cases in Shahdara Polyclinic

In the polyclinic located in Shahdara, 13985 cases of dog bite, 672 cases of cat bite, and 306 cases of monkey bite were reported. At the health center located in Mehrauli, 6299 cases of dog bites, 680 of cat bites, and 371 of monkey bites were reported. At the health center located at Fatehpuri Beri, 3755 cases of dog bites, 166 of cat bites, and 1335 of monkey bites were recorded.

Delhi Chief Minister meets vivtim’s family on Monday 26th Febraury, 2024 and he said “NDMC workers has beedn assigned duties to prevent attacks from Dogs and he gave official statement on “X”.

According to her family, the victim, one-and-a-half-year-old Divyanshi, was attacked by a pack of five dogs in the evening when she was near the Dhobi Ghat gates and was carried 100 metres away.

“On Saturday, a girl was killed in an attack by a few stray dogs in the New Delhi Assembly’s Dhobi Ghat area. I got to meet the dead girl’s relatives today. It is a massive concern when stray dogs are allowed to play around in home neighbourhoods. Officials from the NDMC have been told to address this issue right now. Children’s and the community’s safety is of utmost importance, the Chief Minister stated in a Monday post on X.

Officers stated that no arrests have been made in relation to the matter.

Rahul Kanojia, the victim’s father, found out his daughter had suffered serious injuries in the incident while he was returning from work. Riders of bicycles saw the canines playing in the street corner, and following closer inspection, they realised it was my child, Kanojia had said.
Divyanshi was brought to Safdarjung Hospital right away, when medical professionals declared her “dead on arrival.”

Kanojia allegedly named the individual who eats the stray dogs in the area and requested action against those in charge in a complaint he submitted at the Tughlakabad Lane police station on Sunday. They should also be questioned, and anyone is responsible for them should face legal action.
